Nesiema rates NIS high, charges sports men on academic pursuit

Former Technical Director of Athletics Federation of Nigeria Commodore Omotsaye Nesiema ( Rtd) has described the quality of education at the National Institute For Sports as high and comparable with what is obtainable in similar institutions all over the World.
Speaking to newstap.com.ng at the just concluded 8th convocation ceremony of the school, he stated that the NIS under the present Director General and Governing body has moved forward in both academics, research and training noting that knowledge acquired in the school will be of immense help to coaches and sports managers in their work.
” I want to tell you that NIS is a highly rated higher institution that has produced great coaches and sports managers since inception. I believe that if the standard is not high, people like us wouldn’t have come here to acquire more knowledge and I must give kudos to the present Director General of the Institution Prof. Olawale Moronkola for what he’s doing to reposition the school since he assumed office.
He however appealed to government to give more subvention to the institution to enable it carry out more research work on the training of coaches and sports managers.
” I’m using this opportunity to appeal to the Federal Government to make more funds available to the management of NIS to enable it further improve staff welfare, improve facilities in the school and carry out more research on the training of coaches and sports managers.
Meanwhile Commodore Nesiema however advised sports men and women in the country to always improve themselves by going to school so as to have something to fall back on after retirement from sports.
He wants them to emulate Tobi Amusan who recently bagged a Masters Degree in the United States saying; such an accomplishment is necessary for sportsmen and women to become useful citizens after retirement.
