Nigeria has received a significant rise on the latest ranking for August released by the Africa MiniFootball Confederation (AMC) after the country commenced it’s first-ever Lagos MiniFootball League which is being hosted by the Agege Local Government.
The Lagos MiniFootball League organised by the chairman of Agege LGA Hon. Abdul-Ganiyu Vinod Obasa who also runs the Lagos MiniFootball Association (LMA) with supervision from the Nigeria MiniFootball Association (NMA), has propelled the expansion and deepening of the sport which is gaining more momentum in the country.
Activities on the local scene occasioned by the league drew the attention of Africa MiniFootball Confederation (AMC) as well as the World MiniFootball Federation (WMF).
With this development, the country earned a total of 100 points to increase it’s total to 334 points which subsequently catapulted it on the standings from the 17th position to 8th on the continent.
An excited NMA President Datti Umar Yusuf who broke the news was full of commendation to Hon. Obasa for introducing the Lagos MiniFootball League into the calendar of the Association.
He was full of his praise for also constructing new playing facilities in schools which has become a veritable tool for socio-cultural change.
‘This is a cheering news from the Africa MiniFootball Confederation. Nigeria has moved from 17th to 8th on the latest ranking by the AMC and this is made very possible by the efforts of our Lagos MiniFootball Association Chairman who is the Chairman of Agege Local Government Area Hon. Abdul-Ganiyu Vinod Obasa for bringing the Lagos MiniFootball League. It’s a great movement for our game and as you can see, many people are now getting attracted to our fast-moving sports. It’s gladdening that the AMC and the World MiniFootball Federation (WMF) are all watching too and noting all the positives from this championship.”
The league will also provide the platform for the selection of players for the national teams for both the Women’s Nations MiniFootball Cup in Cameroon in September and the Men’s AMC MiniFootball Nations Cup in Conakry, Guinea holding in January 2027.
Nigeria has been drawn in Group C with Mauritania, Gambia and Uganda.
