Nigeria’s Jimmy Palm Wins AIWF Intercontinental Wrestling Heavyweight Title
Nigerian wrestlers’ dominance at the global level continues to grow with every passing day as talented Jimmy Palm last Sunday, joined the league of the country’s mats men to win an intercontinental championship title.
Jimmy Palm a.k.a ‘The African Dream’ wrote his name in wrestling history book of wrestling when he defeated Jimmy James of Zambia in a fight decided at the Gymnasium Hall of the National Institute For Sports ( NIS) to claim the AIWF intercontinental heavyweight title.
The fight which saw the two wrestlers engage in what could be best described as a grudge war, saw the Nigerian emerging victorious through a pinfall he recorded in the 10 minutes of the 15 minutes time out allocated for the fight
Speaking shortly after emerging winner of the brutal fight, Jimmy Palm commended his opponent for giving him a good fight just as he noted that the victory will spur him to go for more glory in the mats man game.
“I’m very happy winning this title which I have been eyeing for a long time. I must also commend my Zambian opponent who made me to apply all my wrestling tactics to be able to overpower him.
“One thing I want to assure my fans is that this is the beginning of what to expect from me because after six months, I will defend the title and then go for the world title where I hope to bring glory to the country”, he boasted.
He also commended Pro-Wrestling Africa, (PWA( for sanctioning the fight as well as the role they’re playing to ensure that the sports develop in all African countries.
Presenting the belt to him, President of PWA, Commodore Emmanuel Ndo of Cameroon, commended the two fighters for giving the fans value of their money even as he promised that the body will continue to champion wrestling development in all the nooks and crannies of the continent.
Secretary General of the body, Olusesan Olukoya, described the fight as evidence of abundant talents in the African continent and charged government and corporate organizations to invest in professional wrestling as a way of creating employment, fighting youth restiveness, crime and other social vices in the country.
Meanwhile in the other fights of the night, Nigerian heavyweight champion, Mighty man defeated Albatos of Cameroon to emerge as the new AIWF Africa Heavyweight Champion while Le Maboule of Cameroon defeated De Miser of Ghana for the PWA heavyweight title.
Also in the Triple Threat fight, Black Power of Cameroon, defeated the duo of Hulk Power of Benin Republic and Nigerian Mr. Felix to claim the PWA Triple Threat title.
The only female bout of the night between Lady Earthquake Favour and Jena Swift, was won by Swift.
At the end of the bouts, PWA, announced that there will be a rematch between Jimmy Palm and Jimmy James in Lusaka, Zambia, in August 2026, noting that discussion and planning are already ongoing to have a successful Championship in the Southern African country
