No Plan To Relocate NDU Health College – Bayelsa Govt

The Bayelsa State Government has dismissed as unfounded the speculation that it is planning to relocate the College of Health Sciences at the Niger Delta University (NDU) on the Wilberforce Island, Amassoma, in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

The government in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, on Wednesday, described the rumour as emanating from the contorted imagination of its purveyors.

The statement explained that the Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency Senator Douye Diri, had neither approved such recommendation of a committee report nor was it in the contemplation of the government to relocate the college.

The government also stated that the annual admissions quotas for its two colleges of health sciences at the NDU and the Bayelsa Medical University (BMU) were still inadequate and that such action would disrupt the institutions’ academic progress and that of the medical students.

It advised those whipping up sentiments over the rumour to desist forthwith in the overall interest of the peace of the state.

It equally warned that it would not hesitate to bring down the weight of the law on such purveyors of falsehood, particularly on the social media space.
