NSC, NFF Chiefs Storm Owerri For NNL Opener

The city of Owerri will be agog tomorrow, Sunday, November 1, 2026, as the Nigeria National League, NNL, kicks off its 2026/2027 season with a blockbuster opening fixture between Heartland FC and Crown FC.

The Conference A encounter, scheduled for 4pm at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, has attracted some of the biggest names in Nigerian football, with top officials of the National Sports Commission, NSC, and the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, expected to grace the occasion.

Chairman of the NSC, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and its Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, have confirmed their readiness to attend.

Also expected are the Acting General Secretary of the NFF, Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme, and Former Chairman of the NNL, Chief George Aluo, whose presence will add further significance to the occasion.

Their attendance underscores the renewed attention being accorded the nation’s second-tier league, widely regarded as the Most Important League in Nigeria and a major platform for discovering and nurturing future NPFL stars.

For Heartland, the encounter goes beyond the battle for three points. It marks the beginning of a crucial campaign to secure a return to the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL.

Head Coach Emmanuel Amuneke has acknowledged that Crown FC will pose a stern challenge but insists his team is prepared for the task. He has also called on well-meaning individuals and supporters of the club to rally behind the Naze Millionaires in their promotion quest.

For visitors, Crown FC of Ogbomoso, the encounter comes against the backdrop of the recent loss of their team driver. However, the Ajilete Warriors remain focused on the task ahead.

Their Head Coach, Fatai Akande, has assured supporters that his side is determined to secure a positive result in Owerri.

With top football administrators expected in the stands, two ambitious coaches in the dugout and two historic clubs ready for battle, all is set for a memorable opening to the 2026/2027 NNL season.
