NSC ready to back national federations seeking foreign technical support – Olopade

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has expressed its readiness to support national sports federations seeking foreign technical support to strengthen their teams and improve Nigeria’s performance at international competitions.

The Director General of the Commission, Honourable Bukola Olopade, said the government was willing to provide the necessary backing to any federation that clearly identifies its technical needs and makes a compelling case for such support.

Olopade stressed that the initiative must be driven by the individual federations, noting that each body must first determine the areas where foreign expertise would be most beneficial before seeking government intervention.

“Every federation must be clear about what it wants to achieve and the kind of technical support it needs. Once they can clearly identify those needs and make a strong case for them, the government, through the National Sports Commission, will be ready to throw its weight behind them,” Olopade said.

He cited the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as an example of a federation that had taken the initiative to seek foreign technical assistance, explaining that the Commission supported its request for a foreign technical team for the Super Eagles.

“The NFF came forward with a request for foreign technical support for the Super Eagles, and we backed that decision because we understand the importance of getting the right expertise to help our national teams achieve their objectives,” he stated.

Olopade further disclosed that the NFF had also requested foreign technical support for the Super Falcons, assuring that the Commission was ready to act swiftly to facilitate the process.

“Now that the NFF is requesting foreign technical support for the Super Falcons, we are ready and willing to hit the ground running. We want our national teams to have the best possible technical guidance, and where foreign expertise is required, we will give the necessary support,” he added.

The NSC Director General emphasized that the Commission remained committed to creating an enabling environment for national sports federations to compete effectively on the global stage.

He maintained that the Commission’s approach was to respond to clearly defined technical needs, ensuring that government support was directed towards initiatives capable of improving performance and delivering tangible results for Nigerian sports.

The move underscores the Commission’s willingness to work collaboratively with national sports federations to strengthen technical capacity, improve team development and enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness across different sporting disciplines.
