Nigeria’s former national swimming coach, Steve Onyeacholam has declared that he sees Budapest hosting a perfect World Championships next month.

World swimming governing body, FINA it would be noted had to move the 19th World Swimming Championships from Kazan, Russia to Budapest following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The competition is billed to run from June 17 to July 3.

Speaking on the new venue, Onyeacholam noted that Budapest could be said to be the home of swimming, especially water polo which is very popular in the city.

“I recall what the ambience in the city was in 2017 when Budapest hosted the same championships. Water polo in particular attracted a sell out crowd. I am sure they are going to re enact that same scenario this summer,” Onyeacholam stated.

The very experienced Nigerian swimming coach said one thing going for Budapest is the fact that they have the facilities and support of everybody in government from the City Council to the Mayors.

“Budapest has got the facilities and everybody there has got passion for aquatics sport. It would definitely be a memorable outing there. Budapest is a perfect venue after Kazan was stripped of the hosting right,” Onyeacholam stated.
