Emir of Doma calls for more sponsorship for basketball

..praises Zenith Bank for backing Women's Basketball League

The Emir of Doma, the Andoma of Doma, His Eminence, Dr. Aliyu Amadu, has called on the sponsor of the Women Basketball League in Nigeria, Zenith Bank, to do more for the slamming and dunking game in the country.
He stated this while receiving all the teams and officials participating in the second phase of the Savannah Conference of the ongoing Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League play-offs in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
The Emir, a former basketball player appreciated and lauded the Bank and Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) for allowing the state to host the National competition while assuring all the players and other visitors a great stay in the community.
The teams; Nigerian Customs, Nigerian Army, Air Warriors, Nasarawa Amazons and Plateau Rocks alongside their officials and al the referees were at the Andoma Palace on a courtesy visit while also getting his royal blessings.
“I want to welcome the ladies, who made this tournament possible, you are welcomed to Nasarawa State and Doma Kingdom, the only Palace in Nigeria with a basketball court,” he said.
“I want to specifically appreciate Zenith Bank for facilitating this competition, we are hoping they will do more for basketball so that the day the NBA players will be coming, we will see their banner side by side with other sponsors and it will document what they have been doing for the game of basketball in Nigeria.
“We can bring NBA teams to Nigeria, we have hosted the Junior World Cup in football, and other sports have been to Nigeria and basketball must have its place; all the other sports have been hosted and sponsored by the Nigeria Government, they should do same with basketball.
” So many Nigerians are making fortunes from NBA, so why can’t we bring the game here for our people? It will be on record that Nigeria have hosted superstars here.“ The monarch stressed.
“I am calling on Zenith Bank and the NBBF to do something about this, the banner of the bank will be displayed everywhere and people will appreciate their support for basketball.” The Emir added.
Meanwhile, Nigeria Customs are through to the final phase of this year’s NBBF Zenith Women’s Basketball League after their excellent run in the Savannah final play-offs which ends this weekend in Lafia the capital of Nasarawa State.
On Thursday, the Execise ladies’ devastating mode was fully activated as they manhandled Nigeria Army Ladies 76-36 to maintain their unbeaten run and equally punch their ticket to the final 8.
In the second game of Match Day 3 at the Lafia City Hall, it was another blow out as Air Warriors of Abuja defeated home girls Nasarawa Amazons by 20 points winning margin of 75-55.
In today’s Pairing for match Day 4, Nigerian Customs will meet Nasarawa Amazon while Air Warriors will face Plateau Rocks
The top four teams at the end of the play offs in the Savannah and Atlantic Conferences will qualify for the grand finale of the Zenith Women’s Basketball League next month in Lagos.
