
Former Super Eagles captain, Jay Jay Okocha has commended German Bundesliga for its interest in youth development, describing it as the best league in the world.
He stated this Saturday during the official opening ceremony of a new 5-aside football pitch constructed by Bundesliga at the LDPC Estate, Meiran , Ojokoro, Lagos.
The pitch tagged ” Common Ground” is part of the global pitch refurbishment activation in support of football being put in place by Bundesliga.
According to Okocha by constructing the pitch, the German League has shown that it has the development of in mind noting that he was not surprised by their action since Bundesliga over the years has invested in youth development more than any league in the world and urged Nigerians to continue to show interest in the league as well as watch it on cable television network, Startimes.
‘ I want to tell you that having played all over Europe, I discovered the Bundesliga as the best and they don’t take the development of youths lightly. I still live with the memory of playing in German league and I want Nigerians particularly the youths to continue following the league which is televised live on Startimes because it is entertaining and full of passion and quality football.
‘ I also want to commend them for investing in the local communities which is their trade mark and I know that this facility put in place in Meiran will be of immense benefit to the youths and I look forward to discovering more Jay Jay Okocha here”, he said.
He appealed to the residents of the Estate to ensure adequate protection of the facility and avoid anything that will lead to its vandalisation reminding that it is for the development of youths of the community.
‘My advice to the residents of the Estate and entire Meiran community is to ensure adequate protection of the pitch and avoid anything that will lead to its vandalisation because apart from the facility helping their youths to achieve their potential in football, adequate care of it will encourage Bundesliga to do more for the community and other rural areas across the country,” he concluded.
