Southern Kaduna killings: Catholic bishops order 40-day prayer for Nigeria

By George Aluo

Catholic faithful in the country have been mandated to start a 40-day prayer to end insecurity in the country, especially in Southern Kaduna.

The spiritual exercise was ordered by Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN).

President of CBCN, Most Rev Augustine Akubeze in a letter to priests invited all Catholics to raise their voices to heaven in prayers.

The letter read in part…”Starting from Saturday, 22 August 2020 to Wednesday 30th September 2020 all Catholics are to pray… everyday after the Angelus for 40 days. On October 1st 2020, Nigeria’s Independence Day, we shall all join in praying the Five Decades of the Sorrowful Mysteries starting at 12 noon.”

The Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev Alfred Adewale Martins has on his part written to all the parishes in his archdiocese to fully participate in the spiritual exercise.

“We urge all the Faithful of our Archdiocese to actively take part in prayers for our dear nation as requested by the Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria.

Parish priests and Priests-in-charge should bring this information to their parishioners and actively encourage them to take part in this spiritual exercise. May our Lady Queen of Peace continue to intercede for our country, Nigeria,” were the words of the Archbishop in his circular to Priests.
