My sports journalism story will not be complete without Mitchel Obi -Aluo

Veteran journalist and Chairman of Nigeria National League Mr. George Aluo has given credit to Mitchel Obi for bringing out the best journalist in him; saying that his journalism profession story will not be complete without the bilingual journalist and former President of AIPS, Africa giving him the platform to exhibit his talent.
Speaking on his venture into Journalism as part of activities marking his birthday, Aluo noted that as a student of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, he was contributing feature articles to the Guardian Express and when he wanted to do his four months Industrial Attachment, he went to Guardian Express news room and immediately Mitchel Obi who was then Editor of the evening tabloid discovered he was the same person that has been contributing to the paper, he engaged him without demanding a recommendation letter from his school.
“I fell in love with journalism at a very early age. Right from my ND 1, I was already contributing articles to the Guardian Newspaper and that was why when I came for my four months Industrial Attachment at the Guardian Express without knowing anyone, I just walked into the newsroom alongside one other person from Nigeria Institute of Journalism (NIJ) by name Sesan Igeh who is in the US now, Mitchel Obi who was the Editor immediately he saw me asked of my name and when I told him George Aluo, he said you’re that person that has been writing for us from ‘Imobrasca’ and I said yes Sir, and he said just go and start without demanding for any letter of introduction from my school.”
“After my Industrial Attachment, Mitchel insisted I should feel free to come to the Guardian newsroom anytime I graduate that job is there waiting for me and I did my one year Industrial Attachment in the same Guardian. So, I owe a lot of respect to him.”
Aluo also singled out other outstanding journalists who are his role models and who also helped one way or the other to make him the international Journalist he is today. He listed such persons as Paul Bassey, Fan Ndubuoke, Emeka Inyama, Danladi Bako and Emeka Obasi; saying that he will never forget their support and tutelage in his Illustrious career.
