International Youth Day 2023: Be good ambassadors, Okoronkwo charges Imo youths

Worried with the level of anti social vices like kidnapping, armed robbery, arson, drug abuse, prostitution and child trafficking among others associated with most Nigerian youths, Imo state Commissioner for Sports, Youth and Social Development, Hon. Emeka Okoronkwo has charged Imo youths on the need to be good ambassadors of the State in terms of examplary life behaviours.
Okoronkwo who’s popularly known as Agujiegbe na Okigwe Senatorial Zone of Imo State made this passionate appeal over the weekend, while officiating on activity marking the celebration of 2023 International Youth Day (IYD) with the theme: Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World.
It’s pertinent to recall that IYD is celebrated annually on August 12 with the focus of bring youth matters to the attention of the international communities and also celebrate their heroic achievements as well as potentials in various areas of human endeavours.
The erudite Commissioner reiterated the need for Imo youths to shun all forms of vices that are inimical to the growth, stability, and socio-economic development of the state as well as Nigeria at large.
He described the youth as the most active component in the demography of Imo state as well as Nigeria and enjoined them to use such vantage positions positively by acquiring skills for self-reliance and an employer of labour.
According to him, “the Shared Prosperity government of Governor Hope Uzodimma would not relent in its efforts in ensuring regular training and empowerment of the youths, so as to enable them to compete favourably with their contemporaries on the global stage.
“Today, the world is embarking on a green transition. The shift towards an environmentally sustainable and climatic friendly world is critical not only for responding to the global climate crisis but also for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“A successful transition towards a greener world will depend on the development of green skills in the youth population especially. Green skills are knowledge, abilities, values and attitudes needed to live in, develop and support a sustainable and resource-efficient society,” he stated.
Ejiogu passionately reappealed to the State youths on the need to take advantages of the opportunities provided to them by the youth friendly Shared Prosperity Government of Senator Hope Uzodimma so as to get relevant training and empowerment that will prepare them to compete favourably on the global stage and lead them to establish the Imo of their dreams as the State go green.
He pointed out that, “humanity depends on the boundless energy, ideas and contributions of the youths everywhere. Today and every day, let’s support and stand with young people in shaping a just and sustainable world, in the overall benefits of mankind and society at large” he restated.
The Commissioner expressed gratitude to Governor Uzodimma for his numerous youth oriented policies, projects, trainings and empowerments as he reaffirmed the passion of the Shared Prosperity and 3R mantra government for continuously creating
an enabling environment for young people to blossom and reach their potentials.
