YUCATECO Boxing League: Winner to take home N20 million – Imadu

A whopping sum of N20million will be won by the best boxing club that wins the forthcoming maiden Nation wide Boxing League being put together by YUCATECO Boxing Promotions.
According to the MD/ CEO of the organisation, Omole Yakubu Imadu, the league will run for 12 weeks ( three months ) even as he stated that it will involve different boxing clubs that have already registered for the biggest boxing show in the country.
Imadu who has been a boxing promoter since 2006 explained that the league will hold in eight venues in Lagos and six venues in other South West States.
The Lagos leg kicks off at the Gymnasium Hall of the National Institute For Sports (NIS), National Stadium Surulere,Lagos on the 6th and 7th November, 2023 and then move to Ikorodu from November 10-11 and Agege on the 17-18 November after which it will be the turn of Molete, Ibadan and Akure before moving to Ijebu- Ode and Abeokuta. He said, it will then move back to Egbeda, Lagos State.
Explaining the modalities for the league, the Edo State born boxing promoter stated that boxers will be gaining points fighting in each venue, positing that apart from the N20 million at stake, boxers will get purse for each appearance as clubs will be gaining points depending on the performance of their pugilists.
The club that gets the highest point will be declared winner at the end of hostilities.
Imadu further explained that boxers are expected to fight in eight weight categories with the best fighter in each category winning N300,000 while the first and second runners-up will get N200,000 and N100,000 respectively.
According to him, after the maiden edition, there will be one month break before Season 2 will commence.
He noted that the purpose of the YUCATECO Boxing League is to take the youths off the street and encourage them to make meaningful use of their strength in the ring instead of causing nuisance in the society.
” At YUCATECO, we have the firm belief that Nigeria can rule the world of boxing and as far as am concerned, Nigeria’s boxing is back to it’s glorious years .
” It’s equally important I commend the Nigeria Boxing Federation and Lagos State Boxing Association for their support and I appeal to corporate Nigeria to support us in helping to make the youths meaningful citizens of the country”, he said.
Meanwhile a Technical Official of Nigeria Boxing Federation, Babatunde Laguda has commended YUCATECO Boxing Promotions for their efforts in developing the game promising that all rules will be strictly adhered to throughout the duration of the boxing league.
Laguda said at a pre- championship technical seminar at Old Skool Conference Hall, National Stadium Surulere Lagos, Monday ahead of the championship that all is now set for the commencement of the league which is the first of it’s kind in the history of amateur boxing in Nigeria.
