2027: Respect equity, justice in Owerri Zone Senate contest

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Senatorial aspirant for Imo East(Owerri Zone), Hon Greg Egu, has reiterated his earlier call on the PDP, and other political parties in the zone to respect equity and justice to prevail during their primaries by nominating Ngor Okpala aspirants as their flag bearers for the 2027 Owerri Zone Senate Seat.

Hon Egu, a former federal legislator for Aboh Mbaise /Ngor Okpala constituency made the call in Owerri Monday, immediately after submitting his completed Nomination and Expression of Interest forms to the PDP state secretariat in the state capital.

The frontline aspirant who recalled that he made history by respecting the zoning formula in Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency in 2003, by stepping down after one term in office, emphasized that the story of Owerri Zone Senate representation remained one case of gross marginalization and injustice against Ngor Okpala Bloc over the decades.

He maintained that nominating only Ngor Okpala candidates for the coming senate election will change the senatorial representation narrative of the zone, stressing that, he will win the election for PDP and make the needed positive change, if given the party ticket and elected into the senate.

His words, “The coming electoral cycle offers our party the PDP, other parties and the good people of the zone the opportunity to begin a process of addressing the long standing political alienation of our area; with my nomination and nomination of other Ngor Okpala aspirants contesting the seat in other parties, as flag bearers for the election.

“It is only by nominating their candidates from Ngor Okpala bloc that justice would not only be seen to have been done, but also said to have been done, given that under that arrangement Ngor Okpala must produce the next senator for the zone no matter what happened.

“I therefore urge the political parties and the people of the zone to, in the spirit of justice, inclusion, balance and Imo Charter of Equity, give Ngor Okpala the chance to produce senator next year.

Failure to allow justice and equity within the zone may prove catastrophic for the zone’s burning ambition to produce Imo’s next governor on the basis of Charter of Equity.”

Hon. Egu firmly asserted that he’s the best qualified in all ramifications to emerge as the PDP candidate as well as represent Owerri zone in the Senate, considering party loyalty and support, pedigree, legislative experience and capacity.

“I have remained a loyal, committed and supportive leader of the party since 2007, making significant financial contributions for its growth and development. On capacity and experience, I am far ahead of my rivals, having not only served in House of Representatives before, but also served with distinction.

“I have also leveraged the platform to build a vast network of national and international contacts and connections, that I have sustained till date and I assure strongly that with the above strengths and accompanying strategic vision, I’ll redefine Owerri Zone Senate representation from 2027,” Egu declared.
