The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Imo State has announced it will this Friday, April 24, 2026, host a grand reception to officially receive into the party several political heavyweights who recently joined the party in the state with former Deputy Governor of the state, Prince Eze Madumere leading the pack.
Among other notable entrants are High Chief Duru Mike Ejiogu, a business tycoon, political leader, and founding member of PDP; High Chief Summers Nwokie (Ikukuọma Mbaise); and Hon. Chief Sunny Chiadi, a former ENTRACO Chairman and multiple-time Special Adviser to the Governor of Imo State.
In a statement issued Thursday by State Publicity Secretary of Imo PDP, Lancelot Obiaku, the party stated that the quartet all defected to the party from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Obiaku further hinted that other personalities to be received are Barr. Ikenna Emeruem, formerly of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA; Hon. Chief Chris Onye, the President-General of Igbo Community, Gboko, Benue State; and a host of other notable figures and political blocs from the Labour Party, LP, and the African Democratic Congress ,ADC.
According to him, the political landscape is set to witness a staggering shift as the state chapter of the PDP is further accentuating the recent wave of massive defections into the PDP in the State.
His words, “The historic grand reception, which will be held at the party’s State Secretariat, on 98 Okigwe Road, Owerri, Imo State, at 10:00 am, will be graced by prominent leaders of the party from across the country, including the National Chairman, Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, other members of the National Working Committee (NWC), and members of the Southeast Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC).
“These political heavyweights bring with them tens of thousands of supporters across party lines who have now emptied into the PDP and coalesced their structures into its platform, adding to the recent surge of Imolites joining the major opposition party in the State.
“This recent development has further strengthened the PDP structure and support base while weakening the ruling party and unsettling other opposition parties in the State.
“The Imo State chapter of the PDP continues to stand ready to provide a credible leadership alternative for the State ahead of the 2027 general election.
“The occasion affirms the growing strength, unity, and renewed confidence in the Peoples Democratic Party under the efficient leadership of Sen. Samuel Anyanwu as the State Leader, and Rt. Hon. Austine Nwachukwu, as the preferred platform for impactful leadership and good governance in Imo State.
“The party, therefore, invites party faithful, stakeholders, youth and women groups, support groups, and the general public to come out en masse to receive our national leaders and celebrate this new wave of political realignment and homecoming, which is indeed another bold step towards the PDP’s expected victory in 2027 in the State.”
