Fencing Federation pledges support for Diaspora athletes

Nigeria Fencing Federation says it’s encouraged by the exploits of the country’s Diaspora fencers at the just concluded African championship and will continue to give them all necessary support to enable them excel in the sports
President of the Federation, Adeyinka Samuel disclosed this to newstap.com.ng while assessing the performance of the athletes at the just concluded continental championship.

According to him, Chizoro Nwokocha, a 16-year-old female Epee fencer, currently ranked 409 among the country’s Diaspora athletes proudly represented Nigeria’ at the African Championship.

He noted that despite her young age and current ranking, Chizoro’s determination and passion for the sport are evident.
“Her participation in such a prestigious event demonstrates her potential and dedication to the sport of fencing. As she continues to grow and develop her skills, we look forward to seeing her rise through the ranks and make her mark on the international stage.

“Chizoro Nwokocha embodies the future of our fencing community, and we stand behind her with enthusiasm and support.

The Federation boss also pointed out that Somto Eribenne, currently ranked 60 among female Epee fencers in the Diaspora, has exemplified excellence as she also represented the country at the African Championship and she is set to showcase her prowess once again at the upcoming World Championship in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

“Her dedication and skill shine brightly making us proud to have her as a representative of our fencing community on the global stage.

“As she prepares to compete, our support for Somto Eribenne is unwavering, and we eagerly anticipate her continued success in future endeavors.

On Inkosi Brou, ranked 52 among saber weapon fencers in the Diaspora, Adeyinka noted that he represented the country with valor at the continental Championship and is set to do the same at the upcoming World Championship in Riyadh.

He said “His dedication and skill make us immensely proud, showcasing the excellence of our fencing community on a global stage. As he prepares for the world stage, our hopes soar, eagerly anticipating his potential representation at the Olympics.
