AFCON qualifier: Benin ready for Eagles -Ilaboya

Former Edo state FA chairman, Frank Ilaboya has declared that the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin would be a perfect venue for next month’s Super Eagles AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone.

Ilaboya in a chat with newstap.com.ng noted that the stadium in Benin is in perfect shape and as such would be the best venue for Eagles to host Sierra Leone.

“The Samuel Ogbemudia stadium is ready, the turf is the best natural grass pitch in the country and I m sure the Eagles would love to play there,” Ilaboya said.

Ilaboya who is the chairman of Owan West local government area further pointed out that the sports loving governor of Edo, Godwin Obaseki and his deputy Philip Shaibu would endorse the Eagles playing in Benin should the NFF decide to take the game to Edo.

“We have a governor and deputy governor that are passionate about sports, especially football. If the NFF decides to take the game to Benin, the governor would endorse it and as I said we have a world class stadium in Benin. The Eagles, given the condition of the pitch would love to play in Benin,” Ilaboya said.

The NFF has on their part said they are considering taking the game to either Benin or the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.
