Edo Sports Festival: We met our expectations -Dudu-Orumen

The third edition of the Edo State Sports Festival, which ended on Saturday in Benin City, met the expectations of the organizers, says Godwin Dudu-Orumen, Chairman of Edo State Sports Commission, and Chairman, Organizing Committee of the Games.

Dudu-Orumen, who spoke shortly after the end of the Games, said he was pleased both with the near seamless organisation of the festival and the performance of the athletes.

“For us, it is mission accomplished. We organized this Games with certain objectives in mind and I am happy to announce that We have achieved our goals. One of these objectives was to use the festival as platform for the selection of athletes who will represent Edo State at National Sports Festival We are hosting from next month. That target has been met as our coaches and officials are presently compiling the list of selected athletes.

“The other objective was to use the games as dress rehearsal for the organization of the National Festival. We have seen from what went on in the last one week, certain challenges that come with organising multi-sport events, have taken note of them and pass our notes to the LOC of the National Sports Festival,” Dudu-Orumen said.
The Edo State Sports Commission boss commended the Edo

State Government for the investment in sports in the state noting that the Sports Commission will ensure that it’s mandate of repositioning Edo State as the hub of sports in the country is actualized.

“We will return Edo State to the summit of sports in Nigeria. We are not taking our mandate lightly. With the just concluded Edo State Sports Festival and the National Sports Festival coming up next month, we have begun the process of reclaiming our once cherished position of Nigeria’s number on sporting state, he said.
