Group Challenges Rumour Mongers to Name NFF Board Members Allegedly Resigning
The South-West Coordinator of the Gusau 4+4 Solidarity Forum, Ade Segun, has challenged those circulating reports that 10 members of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Board have resigned to publicly disclose the names of the alleged defectors.
Segun made the call against the backdrop of reports making the rounds over the weekend that 10 members of the 13-member NFF Board had tendered their resignations.
Questioning the credibility of the reports, Segun said it was difficult to understand how such a large number of Board members could resign without the matter being formally communicated through the appropriate channels of the Federation.
“How can ten members of a Board of 16 resign without the consent of the NFF? Where did they tender their letters?” he asked rhetorically.
“Those ten members, don’t they have names? Those flying the rumours should be able to publicly reveal to the world the identity of those that have resigned,” Segun added.
He urged members of the public and stakeholders in Nigerian football to disregard what he described as unfounded rumours, insisting that there had been no credible confirmation of the alleged mass resignation.
According to him, the reports were being circulated without verifiable evidence and should therefore not be allowed to create unnecessary tension within the football family.
Segun further maintained that the Executive Committee members of the Federation were focused on the forthcoming electoral process, particularly the September 27 election scheduled to take place in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
He said stakeholders should allow the electoral process to proceed peacefully rather than rely on unverified reports capable of causing confusion among football administrators and supporters.
The call for the names of the alleged 10 departing Board members comes amid heightened attention to developments within the NFF as the Federation prepares for its forthcoming election.
