ASUU suspends protracted strike action

By George Aluo

The Academic Staff Union of University, ASUU, has suspended its eight-month-old strike albeit conditionally.

The decision to conditionally suspend the strike was taken after a marathon meeting of the union in Abuja that started on Thursday and ended early Friday morning.

The meeting was called by the union to determine its next line of action after its state branches met over the Court of Appeal ruling last week.

The Court of Appeal had ordered ASUU to suspend the strike insisting that the union’s appeal can only be heard after her members have gone back to the classrooms.

Members of the union’s national executive committee, which is made up of the chairmen of the state chapters and members of the national executive, attended the meeting at the ASUU National Secretariat in Abuja.
