Team Nigeria’s para powerlifters continued their impressive run at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Friday, delivering another memorable performance as Esther Nwogu won the gold medal while Esther Onyema secured silver in the Women’s Lightweight Para Powerlifting event.
Nwogu produced a championship-winning display to emerge the Commonwealth champion, capping off a dominant performance with the gold medal. Her compatriot, the experienced Onyema, also impressed with a powerful series of lifts to finish with a silver medal.

Earlier on Friday, Roland Ezuruike won Nigeria’s first Medal at the 2026 Games, claiming silver with 153.9 points
The double podium success further underlines Nigeria’s dominance in para powerlifting, a sport that has consistently delivered medals for the country on the international stage.
The gold-and-silver haul provides another significant boost to Team Nigeria’s medal tally at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games and reinforces the country’s status as one of the leading forces in para powerlifting within the Commonwealth.
