Imo First Lady, Chioma drums support for husband

Wife of Imo state governor, Her Excellency Barrister Chioma Uzodimma has urged Imo women to support her husband as he strives to make the state better with his three Rs mantra of shared prosperity.

Chioma who spoke during the grand finale of the Imo women’s August meeting held at Heroes Square Owerri early this week pointed out that women are the foundation upon which any society stands.

She reemphasized that the women August meeting is an annual event, involving all Imo women, both home and abroad, where they gather to chart the way forward for themselves, family and society at large, describing it as a bridge that links all women from all walks of life.

The governor’s wife used the occasion to enumarate the monumental achievements of the governor within his short stay in office, in the areas of security, healthcare, civil service reform, road and drainage construction, youths and women empowerment, among others.

The governor’s wife disclosed that this year’s Imo women August meeting centred on the fight against human rights violations and the Coronavirus pandemic. She revealed the plans aimed at eliminating rape and defilement which includes opening a sex offenders registry.

The Commissioner for Gender and Vulnerable Group, Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu appreciates Her Excellency, for all palliatives and empowerment packages she has lavished on Imo women before and during the 2020 August meeting. She thanked everyone for all their contributions towards the success of this year’s August meeting.

The Commissioner noted that Imo women turned out massively for this year’s August meeting during which they showcased their love for the state government, a gesture she also appreciated them for.

The grand finale was a carnival of a sort and had many reputable dignitaries from across the country in attendance. They included Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, his deputy, Prof. Placid Njoku, Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Muhammed, Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Her Excellency, among others.

Activities that featured at the event included; Match past, cultural dance exhibition, food competition (zonal), cultural competition (zonal), gift prices for the winners and more empowerment from Her Excellency Barr. Chioma Uzodimma.
