New PDP South Africa chapter promises diaspora voting

The newly inaugurated executive of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), South Africa Chapter, says it will move to resolve some notable lingering issues pertaining to diaspora voting.

 

“And most importantly, we will work with the national body to ensure that our great party comes back to the helm of leadership in Nigeria come 2023,’’ the Chairman, Mr Ekos Akpokabayen said in a statement on Monday in Lagos.

 

The statement emailed from Johannesburg by the chapter’s Publicity Secretary, Mr Micheal Evah, said the new executive emerged after its elective congress on Nov. 13 at Johannesburg, South Africa.

 

According to the statement, it was fiercely contested as it saw one of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) members Mr Tunji Omotola, contesting for the chapter’s chairmanship against the incumbent, Akpokabayen.

 

It said that Akpokabayen came out with a landslide victory with Dr Emeka Egwu, becoming the Vice-Chairman and Rev. Alex Waniko, the Secretary-General.

 

It named other newly elected members as: Mrs. Funke Agboola (Treasurer), Mrs Mercy Alabi (Deputy Secretary), Mr Michael Evah (Publicity Secretary), Doris Nwachukwu (Assistant Publicity Secretary) and Mr Jay Eseyoma (Organising Secretary).
Others are Mrs Angel Omozogie (Assistant Organising Secretary), Mr Smart Nwobi (Financial Secretary), Mrs Nkolika Ukadike (Woman Leader), Mrs Biodun Oluwasanmi (Deputy Woman Leader).

 

The rest are Tope Arenyeka (Ex-Officio), Prince Chidi Ike (Ex-Officio), Mr Joseph Barde (Ex-Officio) and Bishop Trust Atolagba (Protocol).

 

The statement said that the congress drew delegates from Johannesburg, Pretoria and members of the Board of Trustees were in attendance,

 

It said the Chairperson of the electoral committee, Dr Rita Ozoemena, conducted the election with great respect for the PDP constitution and ensured that the process was free and fair to all.

 

It expressed appreciation to the delegates and congratulated all those who were elected into office as well, adding that the executives were sworn into office immediately after the elections by the current Chairman Board of Trustees PDP, South Africa Chapter, Mr Sam Iweka.
