The performance of the two Nigerian swimmers that featured at the on going Budapest 2022 World Swimming Championships has been dubbed as impressive.

The duo of Dorcas Oka and Colins Obi competed here in Budapest in the swimming event of the World Championships.

Vice President of Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) Mallam Dauda Usman who led Nigeria’s contingent to Budapest told Newstap.com.ng that the two Nigerian swimmers performed well.

He based his assessment on the time they returned in their races.

He pointed out that Dorcas swam 50m Free Style at 28.14 seconds which saw her  improve on her record at CANA Championships last month in Senegal.

Colins Obi who featured in the 100m Free Style returned 51.48 seconds, a time that is a new Nigeria record.

Usman stressed that featuring at the World Swimming Championships was a morale booster for the duo of Dorcas and Obi, even as he commended world Swimming governing body, FINA for ensuring that Nigeria was in Budapest.

Usman urged the federal ministry of sports to encourage Aquatics sports given the large number on medals available in the sports at international competitions such as the All Africa Games, Commonwealth and Olympics.

He noted that the country would be able to challenge other leading nations in the sports if more attention is paid to it.
