Prof. Dozie emerges 9th substantive FUTO VC

Professor Ikechukwu Nosike Simplicius Dozie, has been appointed the 9th substantive Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology, Owerri, FUTO by the 13th Governing Council of the university.
Professor Dozie was on Thursday formally presented his letter of appointment from the Council Chairman, Sen. Jack Tilley-Gyado. in the company of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mrs. Nnenna N. Oti, whose tenure expires on 19th June, this year.
The appointment of the new FUTO substantive Vice-Chancellor followed the conclusion of a rigorous recruitment process conducted by the University’s incumbent Governing Council.
The new FUTO VC who will be leaving Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University Ideato on May 18, 2026, as its pioneer Vice Chancellor will assume his new office at FUTO, on June 19, 2026.
Professor Dozie hails from Umuokisi Amuzi, in Ahiazu Mbaise LGA, Imo State attended Mbaise Secondary School, Aboh-Mbaise; obtained BSc/MSc from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a PhD from the University of Jos.
The renowned professor of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, a Public Health Scientist, had served as a two(2)-time Dean at FUTO, before his appointment as the Vice Chancellor of KOMU, and his return as the 9th Vice Chancellor of FUTO.
In a statement by the University Public Relations Officer, Joy N. Nnodi, disclosed that Professor Dozie had also served as Member of FUTO’s 11th Governing Council, and Director, Linkages and Advancement; among other notable positions.
Nnodim said, “His appointment marks a new chapter in the leadership of the University as he prepares to assume office on June 19, 2026, succeeding Professor Oti. The University community looks forward to his leadership and continued advancement of FUTO’s vision of academic excellence, innovation, and service.”
