NNL Chairman Aluo commends officiating at Super 4
The standard of play, officiating and fans attendance at the on- going Super 4 play off at the Remo Stars International Stadium Ikenne has been commended by the Chairman of the Nigerian National League Board Mr. George Aluo.
Speaking after the first two matches on Wednesday, Aluo decried undue pressure often mounted on referees by desperate clubs who want to win by all means.
According to Aluo, ” So far so good, we have received commendation that the Super 4 standard is like the UEFA league because referees are not threatened by anyone. I was not appointed to favour any club, so all the 36 clubs are my babies. So I don’t expect referees to favour any club but to be fair and firm.
I also want to commend the referees appointment committee for doing a great job.
“The referees are doing their best, the 4 clubs are doing their best because they are privately owned. Since the referees are doing well, we have to encourage them. I’m impressed with how you have handled all the matches so far because the environment is very conducive .We plan to make the environment more conducive by professionalizing referees like it is done in Europe and other places.
“Nigeria has very good referees, but clubs put them under unnecessary pressures because they want to win by all means. NNL will continue to do our best to improve the league. There will always be reward for the best officials.
Aluo said the standard on display is because privately owned clubs are not affected by unnecessary bureaucracy and administrative delays in decision making process.
Sporting Lagos, Doma FC, Inter Lagos and Ranchers Bees are battling for the 10m cash price to determine the overall champions of the 2025/ 2026 NNL season.
