Rivers Guber: APC faction backs Fubara in NDC

The governorship aspiration of Blessing Fubara, a relation of the incumbent governor of Rivers state, Siminalayi Fubara has continued to swell as stakeholders await the pronouncements of the primary election results by the National Executive Committee of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), which meets today in Abuja

The latest support is coming from the Legacy group of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state

The APC Legacy group, which included the foundation members of the party from the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), as well as the Democratic Party of Nigeria, (DPN), who joined the merger that gave birth to the APC in 2014

The group in a statement jointly signed by Hon. Ibiwari George Green, Hon. Eric Koko and Hon. Alaso Edward Hart on Tuesday in PortHarcourt, declared total support for Blessing Fubara Snr. who recently resigned from the APC to join the NDC, where he is currently seeking the party’s ticket to context the Rivers State governorship election in 2027

The APC Legacy group emphasized that their support for the youthful Fubara is based on their believe in equity and justice, noting that it is still the turn of Rivers Southeast senatorial zone to complete its eight years tenure at the government house

The statement, which regretted what it described as the forced exit of the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara from the APC governorship race, stressed the need for a candidate from the same zone with the governor to be supported to complete the tenure

It further added that the assurance given by Blessing Fubara that he would do only one term to complete the Rivers Southeast zone’s eight year tenure is enough for him to be supported by the people, so that another zone will take its turn after 2031 to return the state to equity

The APC Legacy group therefore assured that it would mobilize both fund and votes from Rivers people to show full support for the NDC aspirant ll, even as it urged the leadership of the NDC to ensure that they announced who the members of the party in the state voted for as their governorship candidate last week

“As a founding members of APC in Rivers state, we reject the hijack of our party by strangers, who have forced many of our legacy members out of the APC We have chosen to remain in the APC because we are the landlords of this party

” We will use the 2027 governorship election on Rivers state to make a big statement. We fully support Blessing Fubara Snr and his governorship quest in the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), though he is one of us, we are not supporting him as a person, but we are using our support for Fubara to continue our long agitation and clamour for justice and equity in Rivers state

“Blessing Fubara has given us enough reasons to earn our support from the APC
His humble and youthful posture has stood him out among all the old horses who have contributed in holding this state down for long

“Also, being from Rivers Southeast senatorial district, Fubara should be given the total support he requires to win the upcoming Rivers state governorship election, so that he would complete the zone’s remaining one term, which he has gracefully signed to run for only one term and hand over to a candidate from another zone in 2031” the group noted

The APC Legacy group therefore called on the people of Rivers state “to stand up against imposition, injustice, and support the call for equity by giving Blessing Fubara the opportunity to return Rivets state to the right path, using the 2027 governorship election.”
