Barely one week from now, all roads will lead to the ancient Amainyi Kingdom in Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area of Imo State, as the people celebrate their famous Eke Ngu/Mbomuzo Cultural Heritage Festival 2026.
According to the Chairman and Secretary of the Central Planning Committee (CPC), Chief Charles Obilo and Comrade Bello Henry Echewe, respectively, the historic cultural fiesta will commence on Monday, August 24, 2026, with Eke Ngu scheduled for 12 noon at Eke Amainyi Market Square.
The epoch-making cultural fiesta will climax on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Ekeikpa Market, under the theme: “Mbomuzo: Clearing the Path to a Prosperous Amainyi Community.”
The age-old cultural and traditional festival of the Amainyi people is driven by their cultural and philosophical belief: “Igwe bu ike — Our culture, our heritage and our pride.”
As part of their commitment to promoting, preserving and sustaining their cherished cultural identity, Chief Kelechi Nwaoba, Executive Director, Union Bank Plc, has been designated as the Special Guest Speaker. He will speak on “Harnessing Culture, Unity and Collective Action for Sustainable Community Development.”
The revered annual cultural fiesta is being hosted by the three traditional rulers responsible for the traditional and cultural affairs of the three autonomous communities that presently constitute the ancient Amainyi Kingdom.
They are; HRH Eze (Pharm.) Emeka Ogbonna, Eze Ohazurumee, Inyi III of Amainyi; HRH Eze Kelechi Osita Okeke, Awa I of Umuawaeke Amainyi; and HRH Eze Martin Maduabuchi Keke, Oparanadim I of Amainyi Nta.
The planning committee has enjoined sons and daughters of Amainyi, friends of the kingdom and the general public to attend the fiesta and witness the rich cultural and traditional heritage of the people.
The festival will feature an array of cultural attractions, including local food delicacies, hospitality, traditional dances, acrobatic masquerades, cultural appeasement rites and the colourful royal train, among other activities.
The committee expressed confidence that the 2026 Eke Ngu/Mbomuzo Cultural Fiesta will provide another opportunity for the people to celebrate their heritage, strengthen unity and promote collective action towards the sustainable development of Amainyi.
