WAFCON 2026 Fallout : Super Falcons Deserve Commendation, Not Condemnation- Fanny Amun

One time Secretary General of Nigeria Football Federation Ambassador Fanny Amun (MON) has faulted those condemning the performance of the Super Falcons at the just concluded WAFCON hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco; saying that the team did not do badly.
In an interview with our correspondent, he noted that it is totally wrong for Nigerians to be castigating the team, without first getting to the root cause of their problem; saying that the team deserves commendation.
“It’s wrong for people to say that the Super Falcons performed poorly in Morocco. They forgot that this was the same team that last year won the title a record ten times and were celebrated by all Nigerians.
“As for me, losing it this time around and failing to qualify for the women’s world cup should serve as an eye opener that other countries are putting in more efforts in women football development.
Amun also believes that poor welfare package for the team contributed to their poor showing and expressed surprise that officials who accompanied the team to Morocco got regular allowances while the players and their coaches where virtually begging for their allowances to be settled.
“The question Nigerians should be asking is why officials were getting their allowances while the main actors; the players and coaches found it difficult to get theirs and to me these and many other issues contributed to their poor run and we must find lasting solutions to these anomaly”, he said.
Amun who said that his fact- finding committe which was set up by the NFF, to determine what happened to the team at the championship, identified some of the problems and made necessary recommendations on how it could be avoided and expressed hope that the committee’s report will be implemented fully by the Normalization Committee that will be set up by NSC for the betterment of the game.
