The State Chairperson of the Lagos State Labour Party, Pastor (Dr.) Dayo Ekong, while inaugurating the Committee at the Party’s Secretariat, Ikeja Lagos, after the State Secretary, Chief Sam Okpala has finished rolling out the names, said the need to maintain absolute discipline, law and order in the Party, called for the inauguration stating that any society that fails to put things in place to check his peoples’ behavioural activities and expectations can lead to serious decadence and the Labour Party is not ready for such.
And for the Labour Party to successfully do what she preaches, there is need for absolute sanity in the Party, hence the inauguration of the 9 member Disciplinary Committee as was seen on Tuesday.
The party’s State Secretary, Chief Okpala noted that the party has been taking things for granted this while and that gives room for many things to be happening to the extent that some of the party members are now living above board and behaving as if they are above the party.
” They doing as if they owned the Party. Things must not continue like this. We we have allowed so many things to go wrong. It 8s only in Labour Party that such indiscipline is being tolerated
” It does not happen in other places. People will just wake up from their houses to do what they like without even minding that the Party has leadership. That has to stop.
“We can’t continue to have people that adds no value to the Party.
Instead of having crowd, let’s have people with proven integrity.. That’s the essence of setting up this committee. We want to reshape things and that we must achieve going forward”, Chief Okpala said .
Continuing, the Lagos Labour Party Chairperson, Pastor Ekong stressed that “When there is grievances, issues and misbehaviour, among the Party members, we send such cases to the Disciplinary Committee to sort them out in order to maintain Checks and balances on both the exco and members. That was why we carefully selected people with integrity and capacity that will discharge their duty without fear or favour.
That is what we want to achieve in Lagos Labour Party”, Pastor Ekong said. Adding that the disbanded Disciplinary Committee that gave birth to this was like a cocoon Disciplinary Committee and the Party wanted a situation where they would have people from different level and different local government areas.
People who are elders and with wisdom to make decisive judgement without any sentiment or bias.
“They are people I know that have God factor in them and are God fearing.
I have so much confidence in them” she said.
On the choice of Deacon Louis Clarke as the Lagos State Labour Party Disciplinary Committee Chairman, Pastor (Dr) Dayo Ekong said ” I know him as a man with proven integrity, honest, fearless, outspoken and speaks his mind on issues not minding who is involved. That’s the kind of people Labour Party needs in order to move forward and not people with questionable character that speak with both sides of their mouth”
In his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated Disciplinary Committee Chairman, Deacon Louis Clarke thanked the Labour Party Chairperson for the trust and confidence she had in them to have considered them worthy for the position and promised that his committee will never disappoint the Party.
Deacon Clarke Equally enjoined his committee members to be forthright in their decisions in order to keep on uplifting Labour Party not only in Lagos State but in Nigeria at large
