Balmoral boss, Adamu highlights benefits of boxing judges/referees course

Chairman/ Chief Executive Officer of Balmoral Group and Balmoral Promotions, Dr. Ezekiel Adamu said his company decided to sponsor the ongoing Pro- boxing judges/ referees course to enable the game’s umpires be in tune with the most modern rules of the sports.
Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C) in conjunction with Balmoral Group is organising a four day course for referees and judges at the Old School Boxing Arena with veteran Ghanaian Judge/ Ring Referee, Roger Barnor as the resource person.
The course which started on November 5 will come to a close on Friday November 8 and Adamu believes that what the participants will gain cannot be quantified.
” Balmoral Promotions basically is about boxing and entertainment. So, what we’re trying to do is capacity building and sustainability to see how we can have more boxing bouts in Nigeria.
” When you go to the United Kingdom, you’ll discover that they have more than a thousand bouts a year but here in Nigeria with our huge population, the reverse is the case. So, what we’re doing is to have capacity building that will enable us have more bouts and project our own boxers to the rest of the world.
On what the participants will benefit at the end of the course, he explained that the idea is to have world class referees and judges who will be able to compete favourably with their counterparts from other parts of the world.
“Basically, the training is all about having a world class training in a local atmosphere. In other words, what we want to achieve is to be able to have world class referees and judges. You know we have a lot of world class talents here and we want to match it up with world class officiating so that we can internationally show what Africans can do.
Adamu while commending NBB of C for their doggedness in moving professional boxing forward in the country noted that his decision to go into boxing promotion is because Balmoral is not just about showbiz and entertainment but encompasses sports.
“Balmoral is not just all about showbiz and entertainment. We’ve done a lot of sporting events in the past and boxing is one of them.
” I was lucky to grow up in a sports family and our entry into the boxing space is just part of Balmoral’s plan to develop sports in the country.
” You’re also aware that few weeks ago, we organised a world class boxing championship and I can tell you that come December 26 which is ‘Boxing Day’, we are going to have the mother of all boxing which will be the best in Africa”, he concluded
