Abagana Town Union condemns recent attack on community

President General of Abagana Welfare Union, Mr. Ben Okongwu, has condemned the bloody invasion of the town by unknown gunmen on Friday night.

According to him, about 30 persons invaded Abagana, Headquarters of Njikoka Local Government Area(LGA), Anambra State, around 10.30 pm in a gestapo style and shot sporadically at people and properties.
“Preliminary reports had it that at the end of the invasion four men were confirmed dead, three of whom were members of Abagana vigilante group while one was a keke driver. The only police station in the town was also burnt down while the community’s vigilante office block was also torched,” he added.
Okongwu, an engineer stated this in a statement and it reads:
“It is with great sadness and a hearty laden with grief that I announce that a disaster of cataclysmic proportion befell my community ,Abagana, in the night of Friday ), February 3, 2023.
“In the said night, unknown gunmen estimated at about 30 in number invaded my community around 10.30 pm in a gestapo style and engaged in wanton destruction of lives and properties.
“Gun fires which rained, as pellets were heard all over the town even though the major incident took place around Ezi Nobert/ Secretariat part of the community.
“Reports confirmed that along the line in course of the shooting spree a very loud explosive sound like that of a bomb was heard and it was suspected to be sound of a dynamite that set the police station ablaze.
“Preliminary reports had it that at the end of the invasion four men were confirmed dead, three of whom were members of Abagana vigilante group while one was a keke driver. The only police station in the town was also burnt down while the community’s vigilante office block was also torched.
“The three vigilante operatives, who lost their lives were said to have died in active service, while trying gallantly, to protect their community from menace of marauders.
“While the Central Executive of Abagana Welfare Union is awaiting a more comprehensive report about the incident from the town’s Director of Vigillante, we beckon on Anambra state government and indeed all security agencies to come to our rescue for protection as we seem to be highly vulnerable.
“On behalf of my executive members and indeed the good people of Abagana, I express my heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims of this dastardly act and pray God to give them the fortitude to bear this huge and irreplaceable loss.”
