Nigeria sports not all about football -Dare

Sports minister, Sunday Dare has declared that sports in the country is not all about football, even as he pledged to support other sports outside the round leather game.

Dare who spoke in an interview he granted AIT said just like the United States of America (USA) Nigeria would strive to develop different sports.

He noted that USA apart from American football has succeeded in excelling in sports like Basketball, boxing and cricket.

“You can see that a country like America has succeeded in the all round development of their sports. Agreed football is the number one sports in Nigeria, we won’t just focus on football and neglect other sports. We are going to pay attention to other sports and inject the resources needed for them to develop. I m for the all round development of our sports…sports in Nigeria won’t be all about football,” Dare said.

It would be noted that the so called lesser sports in the country have over the years suffered from poor funding as over 90 percent of the funds from both government and the private sector go into football.
