Anambra Community donates security equipment to Vigilante group
Enugwu- Ukwu Community Development Union, United States Chapter (ECDU-USA), has donated security equipment worth millions of naira to the community towards overhauling the security architecture and supporting the towns Central Vigilante Service.
The group also donated the sum of ten million naira (N10M) towards the fencing the town’s Digital Library and Multi-Purpose Centre at Agu-Isionye, Enugwu- Ukwu, Anambra State.
In his address during the handover ceremony at Obu Umunri, Enugwu- Ukwu on Friday, 27th December 2024, the National President of ECDU-USA, John Okey Abada said that the intervention reflects a deep recognition that security is the pivot around which economic activity rotates.
“We decided to make the donation having realized that if we get it right through the judicious deployment of the equipment, it will invariably unleash the boundless energies of our people to create an investment boom”, he said.
In his Royal address, the traditional ruler of Enugwu-Ukwu, Igwe Sir Ralph Obumnaeme Ekpeh thanked ECDU-USA for the gesture; saying that it would complement the efforts of the state government in the area of security of lives and property of Ndi Enugwu-Ukwu.
“This noble gesture by our brothers and sisters in America under the auspices of ECDU-USA is in line with the age-old spirit of love and care in our beloved hometown.
“That’s what ‘Enugwus’ are known for. We appreciate and thank them and pray for all our people that are home for Christmas and those in the Diaspora to enjoy a peaceful Christmas and New Year holidays”, Igwe Ekpeh said.
The President General of Enugwu-Ukwu Community Development Union (ECDU) Chief Manga Nworji assured that the donations will be judiciously utilized.
The event was witnessed by Ndi Ozomkpu and members of Enugwu-Ukwu traditional cabinet including Ozomkpu Dennis Anekwe, the Traditional Prime Minister of Enugwu-Ukwu, Ozomkpu Senator IG Abana (Leader of Enugwu-Ukwu Cabinet), Ozomkpu Ezugo Nwandu, Ozomkpu Jude Ekwunife (the traditional Culture Minister of Enugwu-Ukwu) and a host of others.
Items provided includes; a Toyota Sienna van, Shuttle bus, motorcycles, walkie-talkies, security uniforms amongst other items
