Anambra Flood: Sen. Umeh commiserates with late schoolboy family

Sen. Victor Umeh, the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, has paid a condolence visit to the family of Engr. Christian Ezenwafor in Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area, following the tragic death of their six-year-old son, Master Success Ezenwafor.
The incident occurred earlier in the week when floodwaters swept away a vehicle conveying pupils of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Primary School, Awka, to school.
Among the victims was young Success, whose life was cut short in the tragic incident.
Umeh, who was in Awka for an on-the-spot assessment of the growing menace of flooding and erosion in the area, stopped at Nibo to console the bereaved family.
Expressing sadness over the loss, the senator offered words of solace to the grieving parents and other family members.
“It is heartbreaking that such a young and promising life was cut short in such tragic circumstances.
“Words are insufficient to heal this kind of pain, but we pray that God Almighty grants your family the fortitude and strength to bear this irreparable loss.”
Umeh also reiterated his commitment to working with relevant authorities to address the recurring flooding and erosion challenges in Anambra Central, stressing the need for urgent intervention to prevent further loss of lives and property.
Umeh had earlier visited other areas affected by flooding and erosion in Awka, including the families of retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Celestine Okoye, and Onyeka Diamond.
The affected communities have witnessed severe erosion in recent days, with some houses submerged and roads cut off.
Following his assessment of the affected areas, Umeh called on the Federal Government to urgently declare Anambra a disaster zone for erosion and flooding, citing the loss of lives, destruction of property and displacement of residents.
He also said he would amend an earlier motion he presented at the Senate on erosion in Anambra to incorporate the latest flooding incidents and the associated loss of life and property.
