Edo 2024: Benin group throws weight behind Ighodalo

…Commends Gov Obaseki for endorsing power shift to Edo central

A Benin-based socio-political and cultural group, N’Edo Gha Ma, has thrown its weight behind Asue Ighodalo to succeed Governor Godwin Obaseki next year.

N’Edo Gha Ma noted that, considering the huge infrastructural investments, initiatives and reforms the Obaseki-led administration has put up in Edo in the last seven years, it is imperative to have a successor who will sustain the ideals, while expanding the frontiers for the continuous cross-cultural development of Edo State, particularly as the Obaseki-led administration draws to a close.

The group commended Governor Obaseki for his unwavering commitment to the socio-economic development of Edo in the last seven years, noting that the Benin nation in particular and Edos in general will reward Obaseki by rallying behind Ighodalo, a lawyer, banker and economist to succeed the Governor in the fast-approaching 2024 Edo governorship poll.

“The greatest and most appropriate reward for Godwin Obaseki is to ensure the emergence of Asue Ighodalo, we will rally all N’Edo Gha Ma advocates worldwide to get Asue Ighodalo to Osadebey Avenue next year; the need to sustain endearing legacies, reforms, enunciated by the Obaseki-led administration cannot be overemphasized.”

Describing Ighodalo as the real definition of the homeboy, better positioned to steer a contemporary Edo, 2024 onward, the group said anyone of Edo extraction is a natural homeboy, and that the word “homeboy” must not be reduced to connote one who has spent his entire life on Edo soil, as that does not, in any way, translate to competence.

“Asue Ighodalo is the practical definition of a homeboy needed to steer the new Edo project; we cannot risk Edo’s scarce resources in the hands of a politician who has been contesting and losing elections all his life; Edo’s monies is not to recoup what one has lost to electoral failures, but to build infrastructural systems that can tackle emerging challenges and keep Edo at that radar of socio-infrastructural growth.”

Our desire, 2024 onward, is to have a well-planned and organized Edo from the point Obaseki passes-on the baton of state; a state not to be discussed at the level of destructive politics, but to feature at that top level of cutting-edge technological reforms, fiscal prudence and accountability, human capacity-building, economic and infrastructure rebirth, industrial revolution, digitalized civil and public service, typical of the Obaseki-led administration.

Governor Obaseki must be commended for his determination to shift power to Edo Central, a region that has faced systemic marginalization since 1999 when this democracy was birthed; Esan land must take up the governorship race with her whole heart, she must eschew divisive tendencies and rally behind her son to further developments in Edo.

And as the governorship race builds up, Esan must reject seasonal politicians who would want to throw her some crumbs; she must place the general interest of Edo over and above short-lived personal gains, as this is the philosophical ideals upon which the new Edo project is built.
