Imo to reclaim it’s cleanest status soonest- EWAMAC boss

The management of Eastern Waste Management Company, EWAMAC, has disclosed that the firm has entered into partnership with the Imo State Government to create wealth from waste and put to a definite end the era of indiscriminate and open waste disposal in public places.
Managing Director of the German firm, Prince Uche Cyril Nwalor Njoku who dropped the hint disclosed that open/public waste disposal bins will soon be a thing of the past in Imo State, following the signing of the contract with the government.
Prince Njoku, who hails from Umuohiagu in Ngor Okpala LGA made the disclosure while interacting with journalists from his council area who paid him a courtesy/solidarity visit at his Eziala Umuohiagu home,
According to him, every household, business premises and public places will have its own dumpsters that will be collected and deposited at the company’s waste recycling plant for necessary action.
He explained that the recycling plant, incineration and plastic units of the plant situated at Agbala in Owerri will naturally eliminate the presence of open refuse dumps sites on the roads and streets of Owerri and other parts of the state.
Fielding questions on the activities of waste scavengers roaming the nooks and crannies of the state, Njoku asserted that the company’s recycling initiative will take care of it and end the menace of the scavengers.
He added that the EWAMAC has come to convert waste to wealth, create employment for over 5,000 persons as well as restore Imo to the enviable position of the cleanest state in Nigeria.
He said for markets; commodity units will have their communal dumpsters and trucks will be coming on daily basis to remove all the wastes.
His words, “Nobody will have any reason to dump any waste on the floor. When you do, the mobile court will be there already waiting for you.
“We have ordered a lot of equipment and machines from China, including about One(1) million dumpsters which will be arriving very soon, including another set of 20 compactors.
“What you see us doing now is to help keep everywhere clean manually, until our machines come in. For instance, when these dumpsters come in, we are going to give every household two-three dumpsters and sensitize them on how to use them; by separating their wastes. We will come in, two-three times every week to pick them up.
“Also, we have dumpsters for buses and taxis, to curb the menace of indiscriminate throwing of wastes from vehicles.”
Prince Njoku who revealed that the German firm recently signed a partnership agreement with the Imo State Government on holistic waste management commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for his vision to tackle the waste menace effectively.
He solicited the cooperation of Imolites to ensure the realization of Governor Uzodimma’s aspiration to recover the state’s environment and and end the regime of indiscriminate littering of filth.
