APC Support Groups Council Endorse Tinubu for Second Term on Democracy Day
The APC Support Groups Council (APC-SGC) has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigerians on the occasion of the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, while reaffirming its support for the President’s administration and endorsing his re-election bid for a second term.
In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, the National Secretary of the APC Support Groups Council, Hon. Adewale Fasade, described June 12 as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey and a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who fought for democratic governance in the country.
According to Fasade, Democracy Day symbolizes the Nigerian people’s commitment to political freedom, national unity, and democratic participation, while underscoring the need to strengthen institutions that support democratic governance.
The APC-SGC commended President Tinubu’s administration for what it described as bold reforms and policy initiatives since assuming office in May 2023.
The council noted that the government had undertaken measures aimed at improving economic stability, enhancing national security, expanding infrastructure, and restoring public confidence in governance.
Highlighting achievements it attributed to the administration, the council cited economic reforms designed to address structural challenges, strengthen fiscal discipline, attract investments, and expand social intervention programmes for vulnerable citizens.
The group also pointed to ongoing investments in transportation infrastructure, road construction, housing development, rail modernization, and efforts to improve energy generation and power supply to support industrial growth and job creation.
On security, the council said the administration had continued to support the Armed Forces and other security agencies in tackling terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and related threats.
It also referenced increased coordination among security institutions and the deployment of technology to enhance security operations.
The statement further highlighted youth empowerment initiatives, including skills acquisition programmes, entrepreneurship support schemes, educational investments, digital innovation projects, and policies aimed at expanding employment opportunities for young Nigerians.
The APC-SGC said the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda had promoted governance reforms focused on transparency, accountability, service delivery, and inclusive national development.
As an umbrella body representing more than 7,000 affiliated support groups across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, the council expressed confidence in the administration’s reform agenda and argued that continuity would be necessary to fully realize its objectives.
“The reforms being undertaken require consistency and sustained implementation to achieve their full benefits,” the statement said, adding that major national reforms often demand patience and long-term commitment.
The council subsequently announced its endorsement of President Tinubu for a second term, stating that another mandate would help consolidate ongoing reforms and sustain progress recorded under the administration.
It also called on Nigerians, APC members, youth and women groups, professional associations, community leaders, and other stakeholders to support the government’s efforts toward national development.
The statement concluded with a call for unity, peace, and continued commitment to democratic values as Nigerians mark Democracy Day 2026.
